|Rev. Lyle Edwin Klemz, 67, Lehr, ND formerly Ada, MN died on April 14, 2007 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Mr. Klemz was born on May 8, 1939 in rural Buffalo, MN to Earl and Evelyn (Weege) Klemz. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Concordia Academy in May of 1957. Lyle then graduated from Concordia St. Paul in May of 1960. He attended Concordia Seminary of Springfield, IL from 1960 until 1964. Rev. Klemz received his first call in April of 1964 and was ordained at St. John's of Buffalo, MN. He was then installed at Grace of Menominee Falls, WI as an associate pastor from 1964 to 1966. He married Ruth Seppi on Aug. 2, 1964. He served at St. Stephen's of Shelby, MI from 1966 to 1972; Trinity of Covington, MI and Sion of Amasa, MI from 1973 until 1975; St. John's of rural State Center, IA from 1975 to 1977; Trinity of Merrill, WI as an associate pastor from 1977 to 1982; St. John's of rural Ada, MN and Trinity of Twin Valley, MN from 1982 to 1988; St. Peter's of Rocky Ford, CO and Grace of Sugar City, CO from 1988 to 1995. While in CO he also served as a prison chaplain for the Arkansas Valley State Correctional Facility. Rev. Klemz next served as vacancy pastor at Grand Forks, ND until 1996, when he was given the call to the tri-parish of Grace of Lehr, ND, St. Paul's of Monango, ND and Bethlehem of Forbes, ND. In March of 2007 Rev. Klemz served as a volunteer chaplain at ManorCare Homes of Fargo and gave his last sermon there on Easter morning.
During his life Rev. Lyle Klemz was also very active in other things: He was a First Aid instructor, golfed a hole in one in 1973, trained the first rural ambulance crew in the Covington area, wrote "Klergy Klatter by Klemz" for local newspapers, trained for Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counseling and had a Sunday morning radio show called "Sounds of Praise". He was always active in musical groups, singing in choirs like Gail Moen's "Inspirations" and playing his banjo with groups in Merrill, WI, Twin Valley, MN and Rocky Ford, CO. He enjoyed encouraging local talent like The Trinity Troubadors, Green Meadow Gospel Lights and Twin Valley "Trinity Gospel Singers".
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, Dilworth, MN; sons, Paul (wife, Sandy) and Aron, West Fargo, ND; daughter, Lisa (husband, Randall) Vannoy, Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: David Klemz (17), Pueblo West, CO, Christian (8) and Matthew Klemz (5), West Fargo, ND.
