William Robert Tomblyn, 77, of Route 6, Buckhannon, the Tennerton community, died Tuesday, March 11. 2003. in Holbrook Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 30. 1925, in Upshur County, a son of the late Ira Bruce and Bessie Blanche Foster Tomblyn. On June 22. 1947. he married Elnora Jean Poling Tomblyn. who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary R. Tomblyn and wife, Rose Mary, of Tennerton. James W. Tomblyn and wife, Sharon, of Lorentz. and Bruce N. Tomblyn and wife, Annie, of Tennerton; two daughters, Fern R. Young and husband, Rick, of Northwood, Ohio and Karen J.Brown and husband. Greg, of Holiday. Fla.; 14 grandchildren. Paula, Sarah and Travis Tomblyn. Seth Tomblyn and wife. Crystal. Joshua Tomblyn and wife. Angela. Jonas, Erik and Noah Tomblyn. Andrea. Vanessa. Erin and Jeremy Young. Jeanette and Joanne Brown: one sister. Hannah Ruth Butcher. Fort Pierce. Fla.: one brother, Myron Garver Tomblyn, Elkins; one sister-in-law. Francis Light Tomblyn.Buckhannon; one brother-in-law. Stanton Reed.Buckhannon: and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Garland. Junior and Foster "Dick" Tomblyn; and two sisters. Edith Glass and Virginia Reed.

Mr. Tomblyn was a funeral home owner for 53 years and a funeral director for 45 years. He and his wife. Jean, founded the Robert Tomblyn Funeral Chapel in 1961. which was changed in 1972 to Robert Tomblvn & Sons Funeral Chapel Inc., when their sons joined the business. They acquired the Alkire Funeral Home in Ireland in 1979, and the Whitescarver-Rundio Funeral Home in Buckhannon in 1980. which was merged in 1990 at their Tennerton location to form the Tomblyn-Whitescarver-Rundio Funeral Chapel. In 1961. he founded the Tomblyn Monument Works and in 1965 he and his wife, established the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton. He was co-founder of the Village Hardware Inc. in French Creek. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Tennerton United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of Tennerton Lions Club, charter member of DAV Chapter 36 of French Creek, 50-year member of the Knights of Pythias, member of the following organizations VFW Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7, Franklin Lodge No. 7 AF & AM. Scottish Rite of Clarksburg, Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling, Upshur County Shrine Club, Beech Mountain Sportsman Club and West Virginia Funeral Directors Association.

Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel, Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William C. Eskew Jr. and the Rev. Carus Campbell.

Interment will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton.
