Fredrick John Galloway Sr., age 85, of Russellville, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born December 18, 1923 in South Wales, United Kingdom, to Ernest and Olive Knapman Galloway. He was a retired mechanic and automotive parts salesman, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rogers-Rye Post # 2283, the Disabled American Veterans, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and was a United States Army veteran of World War II where he served in the Pacific Theatre with the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team seeing combat in the Philippines and New Guinea. During his service he received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Philippine Liberations Ribbon and Combat Infantrymans Badge. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Lois Applegate Galloway; two sons and daughters-in-law: Fredrick Jr. and Sharon Galloway of Russellville; and Michael and Judy Galloway of Dover; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Kay and Ronnie Greer of Russellville; four sisters: Joyce Brown, Maryann Wheatly, Mamie Galloway and Ursula Snelling, all of Missouri; four grandchildren and spouses: Rodney and Stacey Greer of Conway; Angela and Glen Lawton of Russellville; Greg and Becky Greer of Russellville; and Thomas Galloway of Dover; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted by Shinn Funeral Service at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by Mr. Rodney Greer and Rev. Michael Galloway. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rogers-Rye Post # 2283. The family will conduct a private graveside memorial service at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. on Monday evening, at the funeral home.
