Mary Carolyn Crawford Larrison

Mary Carolyn Crawford Larrison, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, 2005. Carolyn was born Aug. 21, 1933 to Mary Virginia and H. O. Crawford in Huntsville Texas. After graduating from Huntsville High School she attended and graduated early from Sam Houston State University and also completed her Masters Degree there also. Carolyn was married 53 years to her High School sweetheart, Jeff Larrison. She was a longtime Home Economics teacher at Anahuac High School and a librarian at Barbers Hill I.S.D. After retiring in 1994 she and her husband returned to Huntsville where they became active members of Phelps Methodist Church. For many years she was also very involved and a faithful member to many groups which included the Outlook Club, United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church of Huntsville, and a Circle Leader. She was also an active member of the Huntsville Garden Club and a Past President of that club, as well. Other clubs were the Huntsville Book Review, High School Alumni Association, and SHSU Alumni Association. In 1963, Carolyn was invited to join Delta Kappa Gamma Society in Liberty, Texas, where she remained a member for 40 years. She went onto become a charter member of Kappa Chi Chapter in Chambers County in 1979, where she was an Area Director. After receiving the coveted Alpha State Achievement Award, she served in many state capacities including Second Vice President, First Vice President and President for the 1985-87 biennium. Her proudest achievement during this time was her establishment of the Delta Kappa Gamma Archives at the Mary Evelyn Blagg-Huey Library on the campus of Texas Women’s University in Denton.

Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband Jeff , a long-time coach and principal in Anahuac and by three children; Larry Larrison and wife Marijane of Cleburne, Leslie Larrison and wife Kathy of Hankamer, Texas and Virginia Carol “Cissy” Larrison of Anahuac, Texas. Carolyn had 7 grandchildren, Traci, Jeri, Molli, Kyle, Jennifer, Jeff, and Shelly and 3 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, H.O. Crawford, Jr. of Huntsville and nieces Laura, Carrie and nephew Craig.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Smithy officiating. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
