|John Michael Burick, 75, born in Erie, PA and a resident of Huntsville, passed away unexpectedly as a result of a fatal accident on October 31, 2008. Born July 20, 1933, son of Florence “Beauty” Strohmeyer and Michael Paul Burick. John graduated with honors from Cathedral Prep High School in 1951; served in the US Navy; entered into an apprentice program with General Electric in Erie and retired there in 1988. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed playing tennis, woodworking, gardening, and reading; he was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. He cherished his grandchildren and visiting his children in Alaska.
John is survived by his wife Rosalie “Penna” Burick, his sisters Dorothy Knablein, of Erie, Arlene Ferretti, of Florida, Mary Lou Wardanski of Erie, brothers Don Burick, of Erie and Bob Burick , of Clymer, NY. Surviving children include John Christopher Burick , Anchorage, Alaska, Christine Marie Hughes, Huntsville, TX, Ann Elizabeth Fiolek, Huntsville, TX, and Joseph Michael Burick, Juneau, AK. Four surviving grandchildren Richard, Lauren, Kara and Brian. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Amelia Fiolek.
A rosary wil be held Tuesday November 4, 2008 at 7 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7 PM. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday November 6, 2008 at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church. in Huntsville. A rosary will also be held at Burton Funeral Home following visitation from 1 – 4 PM Friday, November 7th. Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church on November 8th, at 10 AM . Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery, Erie, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John’s name to their local library. Sign the guestbook at www.GoErie.com/orbits.
