Laurence Eley Davis, one of two sons of Charlotte Sarah (Eley) Davis and Claude Courtley Davis, was born December 19, 1928 in St. Edward, Nebraska. Laurence, familiarly known as Larry, lived in St. Edward while young, and later moved to Glenwood, Iowa where his father owned and operated the Gambles store. After graduating from Glenwood High School, Larry ran the Gambles store with his father. He and Norma Jean Hasselbach were married and were blessed with three children, Wendy, Claudia, and Scott. Following an illness, Jean died when the children were young.

Larry and Kathleen “Kay” Ann (Rainey) Koch later married. The Davis family grew as Kay and John joined the family and they moved to Sedro Woolley, Washington where Larry owned and operated Ace Hardware. When John was in high school, they returned to the Glenwood area where Larry operated Larry’s Motors until his retirement. He enjoyed caring for his grandchildren, Katie and Leah for several years after retiring.

Larry was a member of the National Guard. His enjoyments included reading, traveling, and radio controlled airplanes.

Larry and Kay had been married 33 years at the time of her death on December 26, 2000. Larry continued living in their home in rural Pacific Junction until the time of his death.

He passed away at the Hospice with Heart House in Glenwood on May 21, 2010 at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 2 days.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Charlotte Davis; his wives, Jean Davis and Kay Davis.
