Lloyd "Duke" Manning

Lloyd "Duke" Manning, age 85, of Tonawanda, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at the McAuley Residence, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late John and Emma (nee Kraighling) Manning and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. Lloyd was a Navy veteran of WII, and was employed with the City of Tonawanda Fire Department for 33 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tonawanda and both the Sutherland Lodge and the Tonawanda Lodge, F. & A.M. Lloyd was also a member and Past Commander of the American Legion, Tonawandas Post No. 264, and an avid wood carver who enjoyed volunteering at the Carousel Museum in North Tonawanda. He was the brother of the late Alfretta Astolos, Marjorie Maul, J. Eckert Manning, and R. Douglas Manning.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian M. (nee Bush) Manning; four children, Barbara (Thomas) Linhart, Lori (Richard) Breiter, Todd (Susan) Manning, and Mark Manning; five grandchildren, Lisa (Brent) Stantz, Courtney Linhart, Thomas Linhart, Jr., Zachary Breiter, and Laura Breiter. Also surviving are two great-grandsons, Brian and Tyler Stantz, and many nieces and nephews.
There is no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11 AM Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 149 Broad Street, Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to the church or the McAuley Residence are preferred by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda.
