Edward J. Doyle

Retired Post Office Clerk

Edward J. Doyle, age 90, of Tonawanda, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Lackawanna, he was the son of the late Raymond and Gertrude (nee Higgins) Doyle and was an Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Doyle worked as a mail clerk for the Tonawanda Post Office for 30 years before retiring in 1980. A resident of Tonawanda for more than 55 years, he was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Long) Doyle; three sons, Daniel (Diane) Doyle of Rochester, New York, Thomas (Penni) Doyle of Nantwich, England, and Ronald E. Doyle of Phoenix, Arizona; and three daughters, Dolores (James) Kennedy of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, Margaret (John) Volpe of Batavia, New York, and Carol (Matthew) Arigo of San Luis Obispo, California. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Monday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets in Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Broad Street in Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. Inurnment will be cared for privately at St. Francis Chapel Columbarium. Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 73 Adam Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150.
