Donald T. Barry, age 81, of Tonawanda, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Hospice Buffalo, after a brief illness. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Laurence and Margaret (nee Lynch) Barry and was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, the American Legion Post 78 in Buffalo and the Tonawanda Library Board. Mr. Barry had worked as a reporter at the Bradford Era and the Tonawanda News, and then joined the Courier Express where he worked for 25 years, finishing as Assistant Managing Editor. He then was the editor of the Buffalo Business Journal for several years. He operated "Frames by Barry" in Tonawanda for more than 10 years, was an avid photographer and accomplished freelance writer, and was a supporter of the University of Buffalo sports programs.

He was the beloved husband of Sylvia (nee Gustavson) Barry; loving father of Laura (Michael) Perillo of North Tonawanda, NY, David (Connie) Barry of Placentia, CA, Patricia (Joseph) Mulcahy of Wheatfield, NY, Barbara (William) Schulz of Pleasantville, NY, John (Annis) Barry of Atlanta, GA, Susan (Charles) Schulz of Mahopac, NY, and James (Lisa) Barry of North Tonawanda, NY; and devoted grandfather of Lisa, Christopher, Teresa, Carolyn, Nathan, Maggie, Patrick, Joseph, Jack, Peter, Charles, Timothy, Grace, Reid, Neil, Dean, Carly, Katie, Eric, Samantha, Daniel, and Amy. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Siragusa of Winthrop, ME, and Marilyn (Kevin) Sipple of San Antonio, TX; and a brother, Laurence (Margaret) Barry of Chicago, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Margaret Jane Martin.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to Friends of the City of Tonawanda Public Library, 333 Main Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family.
