Earl H. Attridge

Developed first magnesium bowling pins

Earl H. Attridge, age 93, of the Town of Tonawanda, died unexpectedly Friday, November 15, 2002, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born January 16, 1909 in Rochester, he was the son of the late Frederick and Clara (nee Ehresman) Attridge, and was a resident of the Town of Tonawanda for more than 45 years. He was a patternmaker and engineer at Bell Aircraft for 17 years before opening his own shop and later founding the Magna-Pin Corp in Buffalo. The magna-pin was the first non-wood bowling pin to meet all ABC standards and was approved by the bowling organization in 1962. He also produced a magnesium baseball bat, golf club head and other bowling pins. Mr. Attridge was the oldest member of Valley-Simes Lodge No. 0109, F&AM, in Rochester.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Harriet (nee Levea) Attridge; two daughters, Barbara Arch and Diane (Stephen) Deck; and two sons, E. Donald Attridge and Dean (Marjorie Weber) Attridge. Also surviving are six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services were cared for privately at the convenience of the family, followed by interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Lockport. If desired, memorials to Hospice Buffalo are preferred by the family. Arrangements by the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Tonawanda.
