Member of National Hose Company

George O. Brumfield, age 71, of Tonawanda, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a long illness. Born in Eden, NY, he was the son of the late Norman and Janet (nee Love) Brumfield and was a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. A Navy Veteran of the Korean War, he was the first truck driver hired at the Stroehmann Bakery. He then worked as a salesman at Cornwall Tools before retiring. He was a very active member at the Buffalo First Church of the Nazarene for more than 40 years. He was a 50 year member of the National Hose Company, where he was a former chaplain, and a member of the Fireman's Benevolent Association in Tonawanda. He had been in charge of the fire police in Tonawanda. Mr. Brumfield was an avid fisherman who greatly enjoyed spending time at the Niagara River and the Erie Canal.

He is survived by his wife, Leoria (nee Hartman) Brumfield; a daughter, Georgia (Paul) Vattimo of Bliss, NY; a son, Paul (Sharon) Brumfield of Tonawanda, NY; a brother, Norman Brumfield; and a sister, Janet Brumfield. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was especially proud of his granddaughter, ShoeBoo, who is studying to be a missionary and youth minister at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts.

There will be no visitation. The family will receive friends after 2 PM on Sunday at the Buffalo First Church of the Nazarene, 1270 Kenmore Avenue, near Delaware, where a memorial service will be conducted at 4 PM; the Rev. Thomas Maitland officiating. Friends invited. Burial will be cared for privately at Bath National Cemetery. If desired, memorials to the church are preferred by the family.
