Halvey Funeral Home as it appeared in 1951

Two years after he started working as an undertaker, John J. Halvey founded Halvey Funeral Home, first starting in Wappingers Falls in 1935. Mr. Halvey was a graduate of Renouard Training School for Embalmers, which was in New York City.

In December 1939, Mr. Halvey relocated his funeral home to Beacon, operating in several locations before moving to its present location at 24 Willow Street in September 1951. Mr. Halvey continued in his profession until his death in 1990.

In September of 1974, Peter T. Halvey joined his father as the second generation to become a funeral director. He is a 1973 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York, with a degree in Mortuary Science. He became the Licensed Manager of Halvey Funeral Home in 1981. He has over twenty-five years of experience as a licensed funeral director, serving families of all faiths according to their neeeds.

William J. Halvey joined his father at Halvey Funeral Home in September 2001, thus becoming the third generation of the Halvey family to become a licensed funeral director. He is a 2000 summa cum laude graduate of the New England Institute of Funeral Service Education at Mount Ida College, Newton Centre, Massachusetts, where he received the Associate Degree Academic Excellence in the Sciences Award. His degree is in Funeral Service.

Kristin L. Catalano joined the Halvey Family with her engagement to Bill in December 2003. She has been working at Halvey Funeral Home part time since her relocation from the Albany area in November of 2002; she became full time as of January 2005. Kristin graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 2002 with Excellence in Restorative Art and a degree in Funeral Service. In addition to her funeral directors license, she also has a license in hairdressing and cosmetology.

For over sixty-five years, this family owned and operated funeral home has had a sensitive, caring atmosphere where families may select the elements of the funeral of their choosing. For the past ten years, Halvey Funeral Home has used the PrePlan, a prepayment system administered by the New York State Funeral Directors Association, that allows a person to fund the funeral of their choosing, thus relieving their family of that task at the time of death.

The Halveys have been and continue to be members of the Dutchess-Putnam-Ulster Funeral Directors Association and the New York State Funeral Directors Association. Halvey Funeral Home is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association. These professional memberships allow the funeral director to keep up on the trends in funeral service as well as providing continuing education to the funeral professional.

The Halveys are proud of their history in the funeral business. These advertisements are from 1939 and 2002. They may look different, but the Halveys are still doing the same thing, serving and caring for familes in the Beacon area.
