George C Schaeffer Sr., age 68, of 39 Clay Street, Tremont, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at his residence.

He was born on Sunday, September 13, 1942, in Good Spring, a son of the late Irvin H Schaeffer and Elizabeth C (Saltzman) Schaeffer.

He served in the US Army.

He retired as a truck driver for Handwerk Construction, Hummelstown.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont.

He was also a member of Tremont Fire Company, a life member of the Little Run Sportsmen's Club, and American Legion Post 384 Tremont. He was a former long time member of the Tremont Borough Council.

George enjoyed racing, camping, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife LaDawn M (Shadle) Schaeffer, to whom he was married for 34 years.

He is also survived by a daughter Angela J Bender and her husband Michael of Tremont; a son George C Schaeffer, Jr. and his wife Michel of Tremont; a loving nephew William K Shadle at home; two grandsons Jaryd N Bender and Jayme N Bender both of Tremont; four brothers William "Bill" Schaeffer of Lykens, Lamar "Butch" Schaeffer of Tremont, Robert "Bob" Schaeffer of Newtown, and Thomas "Tom" Schaeffer of Schuylkill Haven; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Maureen Duffey-Guy officiating.

A viewing was held from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial with Military Hornors will be made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at 2:30 PM, on Monday, October 18, 2010.
